{"id":15689,"date":"2023-01-31T05:27:00","date_gmt":"2023-01-31T05:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/?post_type=futures-platform&#038;p=15689"},"modified":"2025-10-23T09:10:27","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T01:10:27","slug":"be-global-citizen","status":"publish","type":"futures-platform","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/futures-platform\/be-global-citizen\/","title":{"rendered":"What does it mean to be a global citizen?"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"has-intro-font-size\">A new 2-week course on Global Citizenship will be offered at Curtin\u2019s Singapore campus 17-29 July 2023. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-df-font-size\">Using a creative learning environment focused on navigating our rapidly changing world as respectful global citizens and in an informed, just, and sustainable manner, it will be the first of its kind in SE Asia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The first of what will be many educational opportunities on the Global Futures theme, this course recognises that we face a critical point in history. Intensifying interconnected crises require holistic, innovative solutions. Political instability and the threat of war, the climate emergency; growing inequalities; mobility and immobility, racism and ultranationalism; biodiversity loss; energy insecurity; clashing worldviews; and a deep sense of uncertainty \u2013 all lead to a growing concern about where the planet is heading. The course adopts a transformative lens to global citizenship. It prioritises responsible stewardship and more equitable and sustainable ways of living together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sessions will cover global citizenship and cosmopolitanism; responsibility toward and reciprocity with diverse others; mobility, translocality, and displacement; care, justice, and radical hope; future generations and more-than-human citizens; and an opportunity to undertake some real-world research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re very excited to be offering this unique short course and hope to attract students from a range of countries in the region for this intensive learning experience.\u201d said Professor Petra Tschakert, who is co-leading the course with Professor Farida Fozdar. \u201cSingapore is the perfect city in which to consider our relationship with each other and the planet.
