On 15 October 2025, the Faculty of Humanities at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ welcomed Tangiora Hinaki, CEO of Ngaarda Media, to the School of Media, Culture, Creative Arts and Social Inquiry (MCASI) for a tour of the University\u2019s journalism, radio and television facilities, and a collaborative session with Curtin Journalism students<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n <\/p>\n\n\n\n Ngaarda\u00a0Media<\/a>, based in\u00a0Leramagadu\u00a0(Roebourne), is the\u00a0only licensed Aboriginal broadcaster\u00a0in the Pilbara region, giving voice to more than\u00a030 Traditional Owner language groups. Founded by the\u00a0Yindjibarndi community,\u00a0Ngaarda\u00a0Media is a respected news broadcaster and content producer sharing language, culture, community stories and First Nations news through radio<\/a>,\u00a0television<\/a>\u00a0and digital platforms.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n During her visit, Ms Hinaki met with Curtin Journalism<\/a> students to discuss storytelling partnerships between\u00a0Ngaarda\u00a0Media,\u00a0and Âé¶¹Ö±²¥\u00a0Journalism\u00a0and\u00a0Screen Arts<\/a>\u00a0students, highlighting the importance of First Nations perspectives in media practice.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Originally from the eastern tribes\u00a0Ng\u0101ti\u00a0Kahungunu\u00a0and\u00a0Ng\u0101ti Porou\u00a0of Aotearoa (New Zealand), Tangiora has built her career in media through roles including eight years at\u00a0ABC Pilbara\u00a0in Karratha. Her passion for telling First Nations stories continues to drive\u00a0Ngaarda\u00a0Media\u2019s work as a community-focused broadcaster.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n
