Born and raised in rural WA, social media and PR guru Lavinia Wehr has always been a country girl at heart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From driving tractors on her family\u2019s farm near Esperance from age five, to helping her family with harvest on her summer holidays, the Curtin Commerce grad doesn\u2019t only understand agriculture life, it\u2019s in her DNA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI grew up on a broadacre cropping farm near a small town called Scaddan, 50km north of Esperance,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy parents separated when I was young, so I spent a lot of time on the farm with my dad.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI was fully immersed in the day-to-day running\u2019s of the farm and drove my first truck when I was five, well before the introduction of farm safety clearly”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noticing a huge gap in the market in 2017, the 27-year-old launched Lavinia Wehr Social <\/a>to cater for the social media needs of WA\u2019s agricultural community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lavinia has found a way to combine her two loves – agriculture and social media.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFarmers are incredibly unique. They have really unique problems, and it\u2019s hard for someone who has never experienced this industry or lived it to really understand how they work,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat\u2019s where I come in. Having lived and breathed agriculture all my life, I\u2019m passionate about connecting farmers with products and services and helping them create a digital footprint and awareness \u2013 all the while staying true to their values and ethos.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u201cMy whole family on both sides come from agriculture and farming backgrounds and working in this space just lights me up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt’s also exciting and special to provide opportunities for businesses that work alongside me, to reach growers who are my family, my friends, my network.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2019, Lavinia expanded her business portfolio to include podcast company Generation Ag<\/a> and in 2022 evolved her agency to AGSocial<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI love hearing from people in the industry and giving them a voice to tell their incredible stories with the rest of Australia and the world,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following graduation, she hit the ground running, taking on a social media role for the IGA Perth Royal Show, but it wasn\u2019t long before the young entrepreneur branched out on her own.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI come from a long line of family members and good role models who worked for themselves. They didn\u2019t necessarily have good work-life balance, but we\u2019re working on that,\u2019\u2019 she laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019ve been surrounded by people with good leadership, but unfortunately a negative experience straight after university saw me experience bad leadership. I would cry almost every day and I\u2019m not someone who cracks easily. It was just the worst work culture.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOne day dad just said to me, why don\u2019t you work for yourself? And it all started from there.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lavinia said being creative director of a thriving social media business had its ups and downs, but she was grateful for the opportunity to fulfill a much-needed resource for agriculture in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cStarting out on my own was incredibly hard. I underpaid myself and worked insanely long hours,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut I maintained my vision and turned up every day. There were some tough learning curves for sure, but I wouldn\u2019t have it any other way.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lavinia said one of the biggest learning curves was achieving a work, life balance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThroughout my life I have suffered from depression and anxiety, but it was at its all-time worst in 2020 and 2021, and I knew I needed change,\u2019\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Joining a co-working space with other young entrepreneurs, has allowed Lavinia to connect and share her ideas with likeminded people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She also prioritises her physical health, by exercising and eating healthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI think the moment you start working for yourself you need to prioritise your mental and physical health. If you get that right, everything else just flows,\u201d she said.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

With the market currently saturated with young entrepreneurs looking to make their mark, Lavinia has some words to the wise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lavinia feels right at home in the outback.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSet your business structure up well to begin with and do your research,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYour focus shouldn\u2019t be on making money, it should be about growing your business and offering a service or product that is going to benefit others.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSave money and put it back into your business and take time out to rest and recover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAnd at the end of the day, don\u2019t put too much pressure on yourself and be prepared to adapt if you want your business to have longevity.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
