{"id":3059,"date":"2026-06-25T09:31:46","date_gmt":"2026-06-25T01:31:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/jcg\/?post_type=events&#038;p=3059"},"modified":"2026-06-26T08:32:06","modified_gmt":"2026-06-26T00:32:06","slug":"50-years-of-naidoc-panel-discussion","status":"publish","type":"events","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/jcg\/events\/50-years-of-naidoc-panel-discussion\/","title":{"rendered":"50 Years of NAIDOC Panel Talk"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Join Noongar, Nyiyaparli, Yamatji facilitator Emma Garlett in conversation with Dr. Carol Dowling (Badimaya) and Associate Professor Mandy Downing (Ngarluma Yindjibarndi) for a special NAIDOC Week panel reflecting on 50 years of NAIDOC and its enduring significance for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Taking place in the powerful surrounds of <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/jcg\/exhibitions\/carrolup-once-known\/\">Once Known<\/a><\/em>, this discussion will explore the evolution of NAIDOC Week as a platform for advocacy, celebration and truth-telling, and consider its connections to the Carrolup story. Panellists will reflect on the legacy of those who have fought for recognition, rights and self-determination, while considering the importance of continuing to share First Nations histories and voices with future generations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>Once Known<\/em> at the Old Perth Boys&#8217; School presents reproductions of the delicate and culturally significant artworks created by Aboriginal children forcibly taken from their families and detained at the Carrolup Native Settlement in the 1940s.
