University libraries then become subscribers to provide access to research. Subscription costs tend to increase each year, often exceeding library budgets.<\/p>\n<p>This results in public funds being used to both generate the research and buy back the access to it. A simple way to publish open access is by depositing a version of your published article (known as the <a href=\"https:\/\/researchtoolkit.library.curtin.edu.au\/publishing\/espace\/meeting-copyright-obligations\/#accordion_espace-details-for-journal-article_collapse_understanding-journal-article-version-terms\"><span aria-owns=\"pdfjs_internal_id_35R\">Author Accepted Manuscript<\/span><\/a>) into a university repository. Â鶹ֱ²¥\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/espace.curtin.edu.au\/\">repository<\/a> has archived thousands of outputs which are constantly accessed by people from around the world.<\/p>\n<p>Researchers might also publish in open access journals, which have a variety of publishing models. Only you as the author can sign this copyright away. What the Open Scholarship Policy does is grant Curtin a broad license to use your work and grant the license back to you.
