{"id":4115,"date":"2023-06-20T05:51:15","date_gmt":"2023-06-20T05:51:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/library\/?p=4115"},"modified":"2023-11-10T08:43:43","modified_gmt":"2023-11-10T08:43:43","slug":"metempsychosis-the-archival-revival-exhibition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/library\/metempsychosis-the-archival-revival-exhibition\/","title":{"rendered":"Metempsychosis: the archival revival exhibition"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Our new student exhibition <em>Metempsychosis: the archival revival<\/em>, peers into the University\u2019s special collections and emerges with new takes on old ideas. <strong>Visit the exhibition at <a href=\"https:\/\/link.mazemap.com\/gZabHfDx\">Library Makerspace (Building 105, Room 302)<\/a> from Friday 16 June until Friday 30 June.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The concept of metempsychosis explores themes of transformation, recontextualizing the archives to portray new perspectives and question traditional interpretations. Our archival revival looks at new views \u2013 a creative visual commentary on history and intergenerational dialogue through the lens of photography and illustration students. This practice is an inspired way of looking at the \u201cold stuff\u201d where nothing is original, only reimagined.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At the start of semester our student artists were invited to \u201cspeed date the special collections archive\u201d at the John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library to select a piece as a source of inspiration. They developed their creative research projects in the Library\u2019s Makerspace, utilising the resources and equipment in the space and experimenting with unfamiliar practices. The result is a fascinating collection of art reimagining the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The exhibition is a shared partnership between the <a href=\"https:\/\/makerspace.library.curtin.edu.au\/\">Makerspace<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/jcpml.curtin.edu.au\/\">John Curtin Prime Ministerial Library<\/a> and second year Photography and Illustration students.
