If you\u2019re in Year 11 or 12 and thinking, \u201cI don\u2019t know what career I want\u201d<\/em>, you\u2019re not alone. Across Australia, thousands of students are feeling the same way. If you\u2019re unsure about your future after school, you\u2019re not \u2018behind\u2019. While some of your peers may feel confident in choosing nursing, engineering or law, plenty of others are quietly experiencing career confusion. Let\u2019s take it one step at a time. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Social media, family expectations, and school conversations can make it seem like everyone else has a perfectly mapped-out future. But your friends who appear certain about their path may change their mind. Some might switch degrees in their first year, others may choose a different specialisation later, and some could pivot to entirely new careers. The modern job market is constantly evolving \u2013 many careers today didn\u2019t even exist 10-15 years ago! <\/p>\n\n\n\n You might be feeling confused because: <\/p>\n\n\n\n So, let\u2019s explore your options. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Instead of asking\u00a0\u201cWhat job will I do for the rest of my life?\u201d,\u00a0consider:\u00a0\u201cWhat would I like to explore next?\u201d.\u00a0University is\u00a0the start of many\u00a0adventures, not a life-long contract tying you to one path.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n Start by reflecting on what you already know about yourself: <\/p>\n\n\n\n Are you: <\/p>\n\n\n\n \ud83d\udde3\ufe0f A strong communicator?<\/strong> \ud83e\udde0 Analytical and logical?<\/strong> \ud83c\udfa8 Creative?<\/strong> \ud83d\udee0\ufe0f Practical and hands-on?<\/strong> \ud83d\udccb Good at organising or leading others?<\/strong> If you\u2019re struggling to think about your strengths, ask trusted family members and friends. They often know us better than we realise! <\/p>\n\n\n\n Worried about choosing the \u2018wrong\u2019 degree? A broad or flexible course can give you room to explore before committing to a specific career path. <\/p>\n\n\n\n At Curtin, you can explore a wide range of study areas \u2013 including health<\/a>, business<\/a>, engineering\ufe0f<\/a>, arts and creative industries<\/a> and IT<\/a> \u2013 with the flexibility to shape your degree as your interests evolve. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Depending on your course, you may be able to: <\/p>\n\n\n\n This means you don\u2019t have to lock yourself into a narrow path from day one. Instead, you can build foundational knowledge and discover what you enjoy most before deciding to specialise. <\/p>\n\n\n\n For example, if you\u2019re interested in business, you could choose from our Bachelor of Business Administration<\/a>, Bachelor of Commerce<\/a> or Bachelor of Innovation<\/a>. If you love expressing ideas, working with people and storytelling, you might enjoy areas like arts and creative industries<\/a>, culture, society and Indigenous studies<\/a>, education<\/a>, business or law<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Enjoy solving problems, interpreting data or thinking critically? Fields like engineering, mining and surveying<\/a>, information technology<\/a>, physical sciences, geoscience and mathematics<\/a> or business<\/a> could be a great fit. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you\u2019re imaginative and enjoy designing, making or innovating, architecture and construction<\/a> or arts and creative industries<\/a> \u2013 including design, media and theatre \u2013 offers space for creativity and expression. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
