  {"id":17199,"date":"2009-06-07T20:50:08","date_gmt":"2009-06-07T12:50:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-graduates-films-shine-at-sydney-film-festival\/"},"modified":"2009-06-07T20:50:08","modified_gmt":"2009-06-07T12:50:08","slug":"curtin-graduates-films-shine-at-sydney-film-festival","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-graduates-films-shine-at-sydney-film-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin graduates&#8217; films shine at Sydney Film Festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Friendships formed at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ of Technology have resulted in two WA films <em>Water<\/em> and <em>My Uncle Bluey<\/em> being screened at the 56th Sydney Film Festival.<\/p>\n<p>The creative Curtin graduates \u2500 Corrie Jones, Sarah Shaw, Andrew McLeod, Britt Arthur, and James Grandison \u2014 all met while studying film and TV at Curtin in the late 1990s.<\/p>\n<p>Water was directed and co-written by Mr Jones, 32, of Inglewood and produced by Ms Shaw, 26, of Ardross while Mr McLeod, 32, of Applecross was the cinematographer.<\/p>\n<p>Filmed on location in Gracetown, <em>Water <\/em>follows eight-year-old Toby (Adam Lowrie) as he grapples with the responsibility of caring for his mentally disabled father (Adam Booth).<\/p>\n<p>Mr Jones said they were excited about screening their films at the awards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great break for all of us,\u201d Mr Jones said.<\/p>\n<p><em>My Uncle Bluey<\/em> was directed by Ms Arthur, 32, of Perth and produced by Mr Grandison, 28, formerly of West Leederville.<\/p>\n<p>Described as a short documentary, <em>My Uncle Bluey<\/em>, tells the story of award winning Ms Arthur\u2019s journey to discover the story of her estranged Uncle Robert.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a personal story about the things that tear families apart, what brings them back together, and how your family is always your family,\u201d Ms Arthur said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe shot the film in various locations around WA, including Onslow, Baandee, Merredin, Rockingham and Perth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Arthur is currently tutoring in documentary production at Curtin.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Grandison reminisced about studying at Curtin and said the main thing was meeting his colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe created a strong, supportive network of talented people,\u201d Mr Grandison said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBetween the five of us, we have skills in writing, directing, producing and cinematography. For example, I was also first assistant director on Corrie\u2019s film <em>Water<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI remember we were all in the same class under film and TV lecturer Ken Miller whose methods of teaching and motivation fuelled our ambitious streaks.
