This year’s guest curator Hannah Mathews has selected 13 artists – including three artist collaborations.

One of the artist collaborations is Ms Mata Dupont of Wembley Downs and Ms Gill of Kingsley, who both graduated with a Bachelor of Art from Curtin in 2001.

Since leaving Curtin they have worked together on several projects including the ‘Heart of Gold Project’ series – one of which is featured in Primavera 2008.

Ms Mata Dupont described the ‘Heart of Gold Projects’ as a string of five projects, varying in medium from photography to dance-performance, film, and tableaux vivant.

“The projects were initially designed as thematic and visual research for a theatre work we have in development, but they are also artworks in their own right,” Ms Mata Dupont said.

Ms Gill said Primavera 2008 is a prestigious event and a fantastic opportunity for exhibiting their work.

“We are very excited about the initial response to the work we have on show. It is the performance work documented on film, entitled ‘Heart of Gold Project 4 – An Excerpt from Le Triomphe De L’Amour’,” Ms Gill said.

“To coincide with the opening of Primavera, we also debuted new dance performance work in the Gallery space over three nights, which was well received too.”

Throughout its 17 year history, the Primavera series has showcased more than 120 Australian artists providing valuable exposure at the early stages of their careers. In 2007 Primavera featured work by Curtin arts graduate Patrick Doherty, and in 2006 it included work by Curtin art graduate Christian de Vietri.

Attention Editor/COS: A high resolution photograph is available on request.
