  {"id":17338,"date":"2008-07-21T05:00:49","date_gmt":"2008-07-20T21:00:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/malcolm-turnbull-at-curtin-to-talk-on-emissions-trading\/"},"modified":"2022-12-08T09:59:50","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T01:59:50","slug":"malcolm-turnbull-at-curtin-to-talk-on-emissions-trading","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/malcolm-turnbull-at-curtin-to-talk-on-emissions-trading\/","title":{"rendered":"Malcolm Turnbull at Curtin to talk on emissions trading"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"title\">\n<div id=\"titledesc\">\n<p>C205\/08<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span>21 July 2008<\/span><\/div>\n<p>An Emissions Trading Scheme &#8211; The Coalition Perspective<br \/>\nby the Hon Malcolm  Turnbull MHR Shadow Treasurer<\/p>\n<p>A Public Policy Forum hosted by the John Curtin Institute of Public  Policy<\/p>\n<p>5.30pm &#8211; 7.30pm<br \/>\nTuesday, 22nd July 2008<br \/>\nBuilding 213 &#8211; Lecture Theatre  101<br \/>\nÂé¶¹Ö±²¥ of Technology &#8211; Bentley Campus<\/p>\n<p>Following the release of the Garnaut Climate Change Review Draft Report and  the Government\u2019s Green Paper on the Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme, the Hon  Malcolm Turnbull will discuss the design and timing of an Emissions Trading  Scheme (ETS) at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ of Technology on Tuesday July 22.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Turnbull will present the Public Policy Forum titled An Emissions Trading  Scheme: The Coalition Perspective to be held at 5.30pm in Building 213 Lecture  Theatre 101.<\/p>\n<p>He will examine the ETS, international developments towards global action and  the impact on the economy.<\/p>\n<p>The Forum is being hosted by the University\u2019s John Curtin Institute of Public  Policy (JCIPP) which conducts research into public policy, offers education  through award degrees and manages a public affairs program.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Turnbull was appointed Shadow Treasurer following the 2007 election having  previously held the positions of Minister for the Environment and Water  Resources and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister. He was elected to  the House of Representatives as the Member for Wentworth in 2004.<br \/>\nBefore entering politics Mr Turnbull was a partner of Goldman Sachs &amp;  Co and Chairman of its Australian business from 1997 to 2001. Prior to joining  Goldman Sachs, he was Managing Director of an investment banking firm Turnbull  &amp; Partners Limited. He practiced law in Sydney, principally as an advocate  and among important pieces of litigation he successfully defended Peter Wright,  the author of \u201cSpycatcher\u201d.<br \/>\nA former journalist for media outlets such as the Nine Network, The  Bulletin and The Sunday Times (London), Mr Turnbull studied law as a Rhodes  Scholar at Oxford University, after graduating from the University of Sydney in  1977.
