  {"id":17354,"date":"2008-06-27T05:35:35","date_gmt":"2008-06-26T21:35:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/thirty-future-leaders-inspired-by-sir-charles-court\/"},"modified":"2008-06-27T05:35:35","modified_gmt":"2008-06-26T21:35:35","slug":"thirty-future-leaders-inspired-by-sir-charles-court","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/thirty-future-leaders-inspired-by-sir-charles-court\/","title":{"rendered":"Thirty future leaders inspired by Sir Charles Court"},"content":{"rendered":"<div id=\"title\">\n<div id=\"titledesc\">\n<p>C186\/08<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span>27 June 2008<\/span><\/div>\n<p>Cultivating a culturally sensitive international perspective will be the  focus for thirty Year 10 students who will participate in the Sir Charles Court  Young Leaders\u2019 Program (SCCYLP) at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ of Technology from July  6-10.<\/p>\n<p>Now in its tenth year, the Program focuses on leadership and history and  involves students from high schools across the State.<\/p>\n<p>Program Coordinator Ms Sheila Flanagan, said the students will have the  opportunity to meet and discuss key issues with other like-minded students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Program is a fantastic learning opportunity for the students. They are  exposed to a diverse group of future leaders who are dynamic, passionate and  strongly motivated,\u201d Ms Flanagan said.<\/p>\n<p>The five day Program will welcome thirty students from culturally diverse  backgrounds with an even mix of city and rural students.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStudents from all over the state are participating this year, from Karratha  to Dongara, Christmas Island, Boddington and Kalgoorlie including a student who  learns through distance education,\u201d Ms Flanagan said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to the generous sponsorship from Curtin, the Program is free to  participants, removing the obstacles of remoteness and affordability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The theme for this year is \u2018Linking Past and Future\u2019 and students will  participate in a cross-cultural exchange of ideas concerning past and future  leadership with a strong emphasis on youth empowerment.<\/p>\n<p>The Program includes a range of activities to develop their leadership skills  including role playing, in-depth discussions on the history of certain cultures,  leadership seminars and physical challenges.<\/p>\n<p>The Program draws its ethos from the joint values of John Curtin and Sir  Charles Court of vision, leadership and community service.<\/p>\n<p>Since its inauguration, Sir Charles Court addressed each group of young  leaders at the welcoming ceremony.
