  {"id":17432,"date":"2009-09-15T02:22:22","date_gmt":"2009-09-14T18:22:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/a-taste-for-great-wine-runs-in-the-family\/"},"modified":"2009-09-15T02:22:22","modified_gmt":"2009-09-14T18:22:22","slug":"a-taste-for-great-wine-runs-in-the-family","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/a-taste-for-great-wine-runs-in-the-family\/","title":{"rendered":"A taste for great wine runs in the family"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Simon Hanley has just tried several dozens of bottles of wine, and he\u2019s planning on doing it all again later this month.<\/p>\n<p>The son of a well-known wine judge and wine production lecturer at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ of Technology, Mr Hanley knows his wines and he is in high demand at major wine shows across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBesides being great fun, wine shows are important for the local industry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Hanley, who began judging wines 15 years ago, believes WA wines have improved during this time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe shows provide the chance to benchmark local wines against each other and products from all around the country, allowing them to work on their strengths and weaknesses,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Judging wines has become something of a tradition for the Hanley family.
