  {"id":17555,"date":"2010-03-01T04:00:45","date_gmt":"2010-02-28T20:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-dominates-wa-screen-award-nominations\/"},"modified":"2010-03-01T04:00:45","modified_gmt":"2010-02-28T20:00:45","slug":"curtin-dominates-wa-screen-award-nominations","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-dominates-wa-screen-award-nominations\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin dominates WA Screen Award nominations"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ of Technology film students and graduates have scored three out of the six nominations for the best tertiary film at this year\u2019s WA Screen Awards.<\/p>\n<p>Short films \u2014 <em>Bedtime Stories, Mia and Chasing Rabbits<\/em> \u2014 are all in the running for the prestigious award which will be announced on Saturday 6 March at the Perth Concert Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin\u2019s Department of Film, TV and Screen Arts Head, Howard Worth, said he was pleased to see Curtin graduates being nominated for this award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very proud of our 2010 nominations; this continues the history of Curtin students\u2019 success in the Awards. We wish them all continued success in the film industry,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p><em>Bedtime Stories<\/em>, produced by graduate Christopher Nixon and directed by student Magnus Roervik, is a story about nine-year-old Lucy who creates a fairytale world to escape the harsh reality of life.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Nixon, of Waterford, said the seven-and-a-half minute film took almost a whole year to produce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first narrative film I have produced and it has been a challenging, exciting and fantastic experience,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat I enjoy most about film-making are the people that you have the privilege of working with including the talented and gifted individuals that act, design, edit, compose and support the project.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Director and writer of <em>Mia<\/em>, Elyse Hickey of Mt Hawthorn who graduated in February, said the short film was about a girl\u2019s adventure that turns into a nightmare.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI spent a few months writing this story and the film is very different to the original storyline. It\u2019s very exciting to see one of my story ideas being turned into a film,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe story is about a 10-year-old Mia who runs away to the circus with her best friend.
