  {"id":17660,"date":"2010-11-12T06:46:18","date_gmt":"2010-11-11T22:46:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/new-director-appointed-for-the-centre-for-aboriginal-studies\/"},"modified":"2010-11-12T06:46:18","modified_gmt":"2010-11-11T22:46:18","slug":"new-director-appointed-for-the-centre-for-aboriginal-studies","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/new-director-appointed-for-the-centre-for-aboriginal-studies\/","title":{"rendered":"New director appointed for the Centre for Aboriginal Studies"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ has appointed Associate Professor Simon Forrest as the new Director of the Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS).<\/p>\n<p>Simon is part of the Nyungar\/Yamajti\/Wongi people and joins CAS from the Combined Universities Centre for Rural Health.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin\u2019s Deputy Vice-Chancellor Education, Professor Robyn Quin, said CAS would benefit from Professor Forrest\u2019s highly-regarded expertise in the areas of Aboriginal education, history and politics and culture.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSimon is a great asset for CAS and we look forward to having him at the Centre and welcoming him to the Curtin community,\u201d Professor Quin said.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor Forrest, who holds a Bachelor of Education and a Master of Education from the University of Western Australia, said he was looking forward to his new role and being a part of the tight-knit team at CAS.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin is committed to Indigenous education and has the highest number of enrolled Aboriginal students in an Australian university, so it\u2019s a great opportunity to be working here,\u201d Associate Professor Forrest said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel privileged and honoured to be able to work with the Nyungar people at Curtin and Aboriginal people from across Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor Forrest has been recognised through many awards such as the National Scholar of the Year &#8211;
