  {"id":17733,"date":"2011-03-31T03:51:01","date_gmt":"2011-03-30T19:51:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/prime-minister-opens-curtin-engineering-pavilion\/"},"modified":"2011-03-31T03:51:01","modified_gmt":"2011-03-30T19:51:01","slug":"prime-minister-opens-curtin-engineering-pavilion","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/prime-minister-opens-curtin-engineering-pavilion\/","title":{"rendered":"Prime Minister opens Curtin Engineering Pavilion"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>[youtube]http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=mgcvQUc3t7Y[\/youtube]<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥\u2019s new Engineering Pavilion has officially been opened by the Prime Minister of Australia, Julia Gillard.<\/p>\n<p>The Engineering Pavilion forms stage one of the $32.5 million Curtin Engineering Pavilion Complex, with stage two due for completion in 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket said the University had committed to the creation of a world-class centre for undergraduate education and research in engineering, which featured technologically advanced learning facilities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur graduates comprise some of industry&#8217;s best-educated professionals, both in Australia and in locations across the globe, so it is essential that we provide students with a stimulating, world-class learning environment,\u201d Professor Hacket said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy bringing together industry representatives, educators, researchers and students, the Pavilion will create a link between WA\u2019s engineering community and Curtin, and help to foster innovation and collaboration.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor Hacket said Curtin was very grateful to the Australian Government, which contributed $20.5 million in funding from the Education Investment Fund in the Federal Budget in 2009.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, corporate sponsors Clough, KBR, Lycopodium, Monadelphous, Rio Tinto, Thiess, Verve Energy, WesTrac and Woodside had generously provided a further $2 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe support of the Government and our corporate sponsors, on top of Curtin\u2019s $10 million investment, has allowed the vision for the Engineering Pavilion Complex to become a reality,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Jobs and Workplace Relations, Senator Chris Evans also attended the opening.<\/p>\n<p>The Curtin Engineering Pavilion has been submitted for a 5 Star Green Star Rating, based on its innovative environmental design and technologies, which have also been developed as hands-on learning tools for Curtin\u2019s engineering students.<\/p>\n<p>Stage two of the Curtin Engineering Pavilion Complex will consist of an additional four-level Learning Centre adjacent and linked to the Pavilion.
