A Â鶹ֱ²¥ interior architecture lecturer has been invited to display her work at the prestigious Embracing Innovation<\/em> exhibition in Canberra this week.<\/p>\n

Penelope Forlano, of Fremantle, said the exhibition will showcase craft artists and designer makers who are exploring new areas in research, technology and design.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cThe exhibition will look at trends in practice and how they impact on city design for the 21st<\/sup> century,\u201d Penelope said.<\/p>\n

\u201cI will be exhibiting two works which include the Terrain<\/em> side table and Terrain<\/em> shelving units.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Terrain<\/em> side table aims to be sculptural within a space, and expresses contemporary issues of want verses sustainability and technology versus nature.\u201d<\/p>\n

The table is a complex three-dimensional solid timber form, yet uses minimal material so creates little waste.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Terrain<\/em> three shelving units encourage owners to be creative in their layout, as they can be arranged to suit their environment, be it dense and convoluted, wrapped around walls, creating niches or frames,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe units resemble large mountainous landscapes and form part of a group of works examining ideas of desire, consumption and \u2018want\u2019 in an era of sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n

The exhibition being held at the Craft ACT: Craft and Design Centre Canberra will be open from 1 April \u2013 5 May 2011.<\/p>\n
