student takes home WA screen award prize"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Film and TV student, Emilia Jolakoska, has won the Best Tertiary Production for <em>Still Take You Home <\/em>at the recent WA Screen Awards.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second year in a row that Curtin students have won this award.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Emilia, the film\u2019s producer, said<em> Still Take You Home<\/em> was a gritty and thrilling social realist-style film, exploring the relationship between two British immigrants growing up in Perth.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe boys, who are at the intersection of their friendship, have their lives undone over the course of one evening at their local pub,\u201d Emilia said.<\/p>\n<p>Written and directed by Curtin student, Luke Kimble-Williams, the film was greatly inspired by British social realist cinema as well as his personal experiences of being an English immigrant in Australia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough cross cultural cinema has been done before in Australia, the large British sub-culture that exists, in particular in places like Joondalup where the film is set, have gone disregarded,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLuke had a clear vision on how he wanted the intensity of the sub-culture and friendship portrayed and with the successful execution of this vision, the audience has responded quite strongly.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Yokine resident said the prize money from the WA Screen Awards will go towards marketing <em>Still Take You Home<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope to enter the film into more festivals so the recognition from WASA is hopefully only the beginning,\u201d Emilia said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI haven\u2019t stopped working on other short films since the completion of <em>Still Take You Home<\/em> and I consider myself very lucky for that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m currently applying for funding to produce an animated short film inspired by Perth street art and hope to continue forging my way as a producer whilst nurturing other interests in production.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Emilia and Luke will graduate from Curtin this year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Film
