  {"id":17817,"date":"2011-10-04T07:18:59","date_gmt":"2011-10-03T23:18:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtins-own-pioneering-australian\/"},"modified":"2011-10-04T07:18:59","modified_gmt":"2011-10-03T23:18:59","slug":"curtins-own-pioneering-australian","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtins-own-pioneering-australian\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin\u2019s own Pioneering Australian"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ professor has been named one of five Australian Pioneers by Scottish whisky company Glenfiddich as part of its One Day You Will campaign.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sustainability Professor Peter Newman was recognised at the Glenfiddich Pioneering Australians event in Sydney on 27 September, for his work and achievements within the Curtin Sustainability Policy Institute (CUSP).<\/p>\n<p>Professor Newman received an award under \u201cCaring for the Environment in Pursuit of the Public Good\u201d for his contribution to reviving and extending Perth\u2019s railway system.<\/p>\n<p>Coinciding with the launch of the Glenfiddich 14-year-old Rich Oak in Australia, the One Day You Will campaign aims to inspire people to pursue their dreams and fulfil their own pioneering ambitions.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Miller, Global Brand Ambassador from Glenfiddich said the company went that extra step to find people who had achieved something unique within their community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we began our hunt for our Pioneering Australians, we searched for five people that were truly innovative and produced ground-breaking work,\u201d Mr Miller said.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Newman said he was pleased to receive an award as one of Australia\u2019s top pioneers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is a great honour to receive an award that recognises one of my greatest passions in life, sustainability.\u201d Professor Newman said.<\/p>\n<p>The pioneers were selected according to five key Australian values including caring for the environment, love of sport, innovation, talents, <a rel=\"attachment wp-att-10577\" href=\"https:\/\/news.curtin.edu.au\/media-releases\/curtin%e2%80%99s-own-pioneering-australian\/attachment\/med-dsc_4563-2\/\"><\/a>and efforts and support for visual and performing arts.<\/p>\n<p>Each Pioneering Australian received a personalised quaich &#8211;
