  {"id":18059,"date":"2013-01-22T06:23:05","date_gmt":"2013-01-21T22:23:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-pharmacy-student-mentor-wins-national-award\/"},"modified":"2013-01-22T06:23:05","modified_gmt":"2013-01-21T22:23:05","slug":"curtin-pharmacy-student-mentor-wins-national-award","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-pharmacy-student-mentor-wins-national-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin pharmacy student mentor wins national award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A third-year pharmacy student from Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ has won a national award for providing outstanding educational support to fellow pharmacy students.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Lavina Chagani, 22, from Carlisle, won the Outstanding Senior Leader\/Mentor award at the 2012 Australasian Peer Assisted Study Sessions (PASS) Leader Achievement Awards held at the National PASS Forum in Melbourne.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Chagani was up against stiff competition in her short-listed category and won the overall award for demonstrating exceptional qualities as a mentor and facilitator and for enhancing fellow students\u2019 learning and engagement.<\/p>\n<p>The PASS program has been running at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ since 2011 and is a free, voluntary, academic assistance program that uses peer-led group study to help students succeed.<\/p>\n<p>The study sessions are facilitated by PASS leaders, like Ms Chagani, who have already successfully completed specific subjects at university.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Chagani said that she felt extremely privileged and honoured to receive the award.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have enjoyed every minute of mentoring fellow pharmacy students,\u201d Ms Chagani said. \u201cThe pharmacy subject that I provide support for can be quite challenging.
