  {"id":18060,"date":"2013-01-25T07:48:27","date_gmt":"2013-01-24T23:48:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-fm-secures-lotterywest-funding\/"},"modified":"2025-06-17T11:32:58","modified_gmt":"2025-06-17T03:32:58","slug":"curtin-fm-secures-lotterywest-funding","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-fm-secures-lotterywest-funding\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin FM secures Lotterywest funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin FM has secured a Lotterywest grant of $712,871, the most significant single grant awarded to the station in its 36-year history.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin FM, Western Australia\u2019s largest community radio station based at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥\u2019s Bentley Campus, is a not-for-profit enterprise completely self-funded from community support and corporate sponsorship.<\/p>\n<p>The Hon Peter Collier, Minister for Education; Energy and Indigenous Affairs presented the grant award yesterday to Curtin FM.<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Vice-Chancellor Professor Jeanette Hacket was pleased to accept the grant on behalf of Curtin FM.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Lotterywest grant recognises the important role Curtin FM performs at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ and the high regard it is held in by its listeners and the community,\u201d Professor Hacket said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin FM is a leading community radio station which could not operate without the 12 dedicated staff members and the team of 80 professionally trained volunteers who broadcast to an audience of around 200,000 listeners seven days a week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin FM is also widely acclaimed for its training program for students from the University\u2019s School of Journalism, many of who go on to work in broadcasting across Australia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The grant will be used for major capital, technical and infrastructure upgrades that would not have been possible without additional funding.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe essential upgrades, which include replacing all aging equipment such as audio equipment that predates the station\u2019s upgrade to the FM band 10 years ago, transmitters, studio, control room and producer\u2019s equipment, have been made possible through the grant,\u201d Professor Hacket said.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin FM will also purchase an outside broadcast van which will allow the station to operate out in the community.
