The Department of Commerce and the Small Business Development Corporation have signed on for the third time as main sponsors for Â鶹ֱ²¥\u2019s Ignition entrepreneurship and innovation initiative.<\/p>\n
Information and Communications Technology company Amcom has also been announced as the industry sponsor, further cementing the value that the Ignition program provides to innovative businesses.<\/p>\n
With the program in its third year and participation rates steadily increasing, Program Director Jane Garrett said the addition of major sponsors was a further boost to emerging entrepreneurs.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are thrilled to have large industry and government bodies recognising the worth this program provides to participants,\u201d Ms Garrett said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe program features a who\u2019s who of everyone and anyone in the start-up, investment and innovation community in Perth and Western Australia. This is reflected by the quality and overwhelming number of applicants we receive and the awards some of the program\u2019s alumni have achieved.\u201d<\/p>\n
Graduates from past programs have gone on to national recognition in their fields, including Sharon Grosser, Operations Director at SEQTA, an education management system provider.<\/p>\n
\u201cAfter attending the program I went on to win national awards and will be representing Australia at The Asia Pacific Information and Communications Technology Awards. I attribute part of this success to my participation in the Ignition program,\u201d Ms Grosser said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is vitally important that emerging entrepreneurs be given access to leaders in this field and the Ignition program allowed me to do just that, in an intensive course environment.\u201d<\/p>\n
Other past success stories include the founders of Bombora Wave Power and Curtin academic Professor Moyez Jiwa, whose health innovations include a \u201cFuture Me\u201d anti-obesity app that is currently being commercialised.<\/p>\n
