  {"id":18172,"date":"2013-09-18T02:33:53","date_gmt":"2013-09-17T18:33:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-university-and-st-john-partnership-to-boost-research-in-emergency-care\/"},"modified":"2013-09-18T02:33:53","modified_gmt":"2013-09-17T18:33:53","slug":"curtin-university-and-st-john-partnership-to-boost-research-in-emergency-care","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-university-and-st-john-partnership-to-boost-research-in-emergency-care\/","title":{"rendered":"Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ and St John partnership to boost research in emergency care"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Leading researchers from Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ have partnered with St John Ambulance Western Australia (St John) to boost research in the delivery of resuscitation and pre-hospital emergency ambulance care provided to patients.<\/p>\n<p>Through the Pre-hospital Resuscitation and Emergency Care Research Unit (PRECRU), which recently relocated from The University of Western Australia, Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ and St John will work collaboratively to see the latest pioneering research translated into clinical practice to help improve patient outcomes.<\/p>\n<p>PRECRU\u2019s research will also inform the teaching that is provided in Curtin\u2019s two new paramedicine degrees.<\/p>\n<p>Professor Michael Berndt, Curtin\u2019s Pro Vice-Chancellor Health Sciences, welcomed the new collaboration.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis development will ensure our graduates are exposed to the very latest findings in the emergency ambulance care, that they graduate career-ready and that high-quality patient care is provided to the Western Australian community,\u201d Professor Berndt said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPRECRU boasts a strong and successful community of outstanding researchers including Professors Ian Jacobs and Judith Finn.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey are already nationally and internationally recognised for their research in resuscitation and pre-hospital emergency care and we are looking forward to developing this research further.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Professor Ian Jacobs, Director of PRECRU and Clinical Services Director at St John, said research and innovation were critical to the evolution of high-quality evidence-based patient care in the pre-hospital environment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPre-hospital care is changing both internationally and here in Australia, and to ensure that we stay ahead of the game, we need to make sure that innovative research is undertaken,\u201d Professor Jacobs said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are already making a difference in this arena. But our collaboration with Curtin means we can develop our research expertise even further tapping into a vast network of experienced healthcare researchers to deliver life-changing research.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The launch of PRECRU was officially celebrated at an event held at Curtin\u2019s Bentley Campus on Tuesday 17 September.
