  {"id":18351,"date":"2014-12-01T08:09:29","date_gmt":"2014-12-01T00:09:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/geraldton-teacher-receives-curtin-teaching-excellence-award\/"},"modified":"2014-12-01T08:09:29","modified_gmt":"2014-12-01T00:09:29","slug":"geraldton-teacher-receives-curtin-teaching-excellence-award","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/geraldton-teacher-receives-curtin-teaching-excellence-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Geraldton teacher receives the Curtin Teaching Excellence Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>&#8212; Award recognises regional teaching excellence &#8212;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>A Geraldton primary school teacher\u2019s passion and commitment to learning has been recognised at the 2014 Regional Achievement and Community Awards with her receiving the Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Teaching Excellence Award.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Kendall Hill of Waggrakine Primary School near Geraldton, has been instrumental in enabling and fostering communication between students, parents and teachers at the school, and introducing new programs such as progress reports and a class blog which is used to keep the school community informed.<\/p>\n<p>The Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Teaching Excellence Award acknowledges people who are passionate about their work with students and have demonstrated a pattern of outstanding service in regional and rural Western Australia.<\/p>\n<p>A champion of community participation and engagement, Ms Hill is involved in extra-curricular activities and generally encourages students to pursue healthy, active lifestyles.<\/p>\n<p>Associate Professor Lina Pelliccione, Head of School of Education at Curtin presented the award, and said Ms Hill\u2019s work was an outstanding example of commitment to education in regional WA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCurtin\u2019s School of Education strives to develop graduates who are dedicated, passionate, knowledgeable and innovative \u2013 all the attributes that have clearly been identified in Kendall\u2019s achievements, making her a worthy recipient of the 2014 Teaching Excellence Award,\u201d Associate Professor Pelliccione said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKendall has developed learning programs that improve communication throughout the school community, which is essential to enhance the positive outcomes for the students and the school.
