2016 marks the 20th<\/sup> anniversary of the death of one of Australia\u2019s most prominent Indigenous statesman and leaders, Rob Riley, who left an incredible legacy at Â鶹ֱ²¥ and within the Aboriginal community.<\/p>\n

Inspired by his conviction that Australia had to confront its history of dispossession of Aboriginal people from their lands and all that has flowed from it, Rob Riley worked tirelessly to advance social justice and reconciliation with non-indigenous Australia.<\/p>\n

Professor Marion Kickett, Director of the Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS), said Rob Riley was a key Indigenous figure who had a long association with Â鶹ֱ²¥.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Rob Riley Memorial Lectures began in 2004 and have been a reoccurring event for the last 12 years to remember and honour Mr Riley\u2019s work within the university,\u201d Professor Kickett said.<\/p>\n

The 2016 memorial lecture, hosted by Mr Ben Wyatt MLA for Victoria Park, will also include tributes presented by Professor Patricia Dudgeon, former Director of CAS, Professor Quentin Beresford, author of Rob Riley\u2019s biography, and Rob Riley\u2019s close personal friends, Darryl Kickett, Jim Morrison and Peter Yu.<\/p>\n
