  {"id":18601,"date":"2016-05-27T02:31:02","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T18:31:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/future-leaders-developed-new-program-curtin\/"},"modified":"2016-05-27T02:31:02","modified_gmt":"2016-05-26T18:31:02","slug":"future-leaders-developed-new-program-curtin","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/future-leaders-developed-new-program-curtin\/","title":{"rendered":"Future leaders developed through new program at Curtin"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin Stadium, based at Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, has introduced the Leadership in Sport program designed to develop leadership skills and encourage employment opportunities for students upon graduation.<\/p>\n<p>Mr David Russell, Head of Sport and Recreation at Curtin, said the experience student\u2019s gain from completing the program helps them to develop into confident, employable graduates.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of Leadership in Sport, students learn to understand their strengths and how to work to them; identify characteristics of successful teams; explore strategies to make the most of their time; learn how to make difficult decisions; and how to handle conflict effectively.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe collaboration between student sport, Academic Faculty and the Curtin Leadership Centre is a key component of the recently endorsed Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Sport and Active Recreation strategy,\u201d Mr Russell said.<\/p>\n<p>Leadership in Sport, run out of the Bentley campus, is open to all Curtin students and is dedicated to encouraging communication, life-long learning, intercultural awareness and learning to apply professional skills in the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>The program combines volunteering roles in Curtin\u2019s sport and recreation community with leadership training modules offered through the Curtin Leadership Centre.<\/p>\n<p>Students participate in a minimum of ten hours of volunteering in roles including Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Sports Clubs Committee Members, Student Advisory Groups, in Sport Projects and as University Games Captains.
