  {"id":18775,"date":"2017-04-24T05:23:26","date_gmt":"2017-04-23T21:23:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-university-st-georges-terrace-awarded-6-green-star-rating\/"},"modified":"2017-04-24T05:23:26","modified_gmt":"2017-04-23T21:23:26","slug":"curtin-university-st-georges-terrace-awarded-6-green-star-rating","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-university-st-georges-terrace-awarded-6-green-star-rating\/","title":{"rendered":"Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ St Georges Terrace awarded 6 Green Star rating"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ has received the first 6 Star Green Star \u2013 Interiors rating awarded to an Australian university for its St Georges Terrace building which is housed in Perth\u2019s oldest educational landmark.<\/p>\n<p>The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) Green Star \u2013 Interiors rating assesses the sustainability outcomes of interior fit-outs across nine categories, including management, indoor environment quality (IEQ), energy, transport, water, materials, land use and ecology, emissions, and innovation. The rating represents world leadership in sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the rating was a significant achievement for Curtin St Georges Terrace.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first 6 Star Green Star \u2013 Interiors rating awarded to an Australian university and reflects Curtin\u2019s commitment to reducing environmental impact across our campuses,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe University is continually striving to be a leader in sustainability, working with leading sustainability consultants and other stakeholders including architects, services engineers and builders to establish a best practice level of building performance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have taken a leadership role in the area of sustainable building, stipulating that all new buildings and retrofitting of existing buildings adhere to the Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Sustainable Building Design Guidelines.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>GBCA Chief Executive Officer Ms Romilly Madew applauded Curtin\u2019s achievement and its ongoing leadership in sustainability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ also being the first university in Australia to achieve a Green Star \u2013 Communities rating for its Greater Curtin Master Plan, this latest certification reinforces a long-term commitment to creating places that are good for both people and the planet,\u201d Ms Madew said.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin St Georges Terrace is housed in the Old Perth Boys\u2019 School, the first purpose-built public school in Perth.
