{"id":18816,"date":"2017-07-17T02:44:49","date_gmt":"2017-07-16T18:44:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-strengthens-commitment-equal-access-new-plan\/"},"modified":"2017-07-17T02:44:49","modified_gmt":"2017-07-16T18:44:49","slug":"curtin-strengthens-commitment-equal-access-new-plan","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-strengthens-commitment-equal-access-new-plan\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin strengthens its commitment to equal access in new plan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Â鶹ֱ²¥ has unveiled its new Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP), an initiative to create an accessible and inclusive environment for people with disabilities.<\/p>\n<p>The plan<em>, <\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/about.curtin.edu.au\/policy-governance\/disability-access-inclusion-plan\/\"><em>Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) 2017-2020: Facilitating Universal Design<\/em><\/a> applies the principals of universal design, including equitable use and flexibility in use, to design for a diverse student and staff body from the outset.<\/p>\n<p>As part of Curtin\u2019s commitment to equal access and opportunities, all staff will be encouraged to consider the principles of universal design and how it can be applied to their roles.<\/p>\n<p>Â鶹ֱ²¥ Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the University was committed to innovation and excellence for the benefit of its diverse community.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach Curtin DAIP to-date has brought notable improvements in accessibility and inclusion for people with disability.
