  {"id":18858,"date":"2017-09-22T03:55:25","date_gmt":"2017-09-21T19:55:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/royal-show-curtin-fashion-students-wool-designs\/"},"modified":"2022-12-08T10:11:03","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T02:11:03","slug":"royal-show-curtin-fashion-students-wool-designs","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/royal-show-curtin-fashion-students-wool-designs\/","title":{"rendered":"Royal show for Curtin fashion students\u2019 wool designs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wool fashion designs created by two final-year Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Bachelor of Arts in Fashion students will be on display at the 2017 IGA Perth Royal Show.<\/p>\n<p>Ancille Kashaba and Melissa Pei-Sun Goh were the recipients of two Australian Wool Education Trust scholarships, which provide grants to final-year fashion students to help them purchase wool fabrics for their collections.<\/p>\n<p>The Australian Wool Education Trust supports wool education initiatives in Australia, particularly in wool and wool textile science and technology.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Kashaba\u2019s works, entitled Modern Day Dandy, were inspired by her idea to deconstruct the codes of a men\u2019s suit.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI wanted to offer my wearer the opportunity to try something unique and creative, making them stand out from the traditional three-piece suit,\u201d Ms Kashaba said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe collection is for the modern Australian youth, taking inspiration from dandyism, traditional tailoring and the Australian lifestyle. The textiles are inspired by Australian wildflowers and are primarily produced from wool.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI like working with wool because of the incredible properties of the material, including the different weight options and the different textures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ms Goh\u2019s collection of works are from her PEI-SUN Autumn\/Winter 2017\/18 capsule collection, which she explained is loosely based on the 1920\u2019s Australian Razor Gangs and the concealment of their identities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWool is a flexible, natural fibre with trans-seasonal qualities. It\u2019s a durable fabric to suit most wearers, not only for Australian customers, but also globally,\u201d Ms Goh said.<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Fashion Coordinator Dr Anne Farren said the support of the Australian Wool Education Trust allowed the students the opportunity to work with, and promote, an iconic Australian product.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Wool is an amazing natural fibre with properties that meet the demands of\u00a0modern living.
