Leading scientist Dr John Hosking\u2019s contribution to the field of chemistry has been recognised with a room officially named after him at Â鶹ֱ²¥\u2019s Bentley Campus.<\/p>\n
As part of a naming ceremony held yesterday, attended by family, friends and former colleagues, \u2018The John Hosking Room\u2019 was officially named in Dr Hosking\u2019s honour.<\/p>\n
Curtin Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the room was named in his honour to acknowledge his significant contribution to the University, ChemCentre and the field of chemistry, throughout his career.<\/p>\n
\u201cDr Hosking began working at Curtin, then known as the Western Australian Institute of Technology, or WAIT, in 1971 as a lecturer in Inorganic Chemistry,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe continued to progress his lecturing career until 1984, when he then began work at ChemCentre until 2004, with the last 15 years as Managing Director.<\/p>\n
\u201cNaming the room after Dr Hosking presents an opportunity to recognise and honour a scientist of significant reputation and standing, acknowledging his contributions to both institutions, Â鶹ֱ²¥ and the ChemCentre.\u201d<\/p>\n
ChemCentre Chief Executive Officer Peter McCafferty said Dr Hosking\u2019s contribution to the ChemCentre could not be overstated.<\/p>\n
\u201cJohn steered the ChemCentre during a transitionary period, enabling it to become the vibrant organisation that it is today,\u201d Mr McCafferty said.<\/p>\n
Dr Hosking is a fellow of the Australasian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy and a Distinguished Fellow and Past President of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute. He has also been recognised for his contributions to the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA).<\/p>\n
