The impact of artificial intelligence on regional telecommunications, higher education and the urban environment will be the focus of a new research group launched today as part of a new alliance between Optus Business and Â鶹ֱ²¥.<\/p>\n
The five-year alliance will develop an artificial intelligence research group embedded in the School of Electrical Engineering, Computing and Mathematical Sciences at Â鶹ֱ²¥, with strong links to the Curtin Institute for Data Science.<\/p>\n
The alliance will leverage synergies between Curtin\u2019s excellent research, teaching and learning capabilities, and Optus\u2019 market-leading technology and infrastructure capabilities.<\/p>\n
It will involve the appointment of an Optus Chair in Artificial Intelligence and three Optus Research Fellows focusing on applying artificial intelligence technologies in areas such as regional telecommunications, improving higher education student outcomes and the urban environment, as well as funding for PhD scholarships and student projects.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s formal announcement was made by Optus Business Managing Director John Paitaridis and Â鶹ֱ²¥ Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry.<\/p>\n
Professor Terry said Curtin was proud to enter into what was an exciting, future-looking partnership with Optus.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis five-year alliance is built on a shared vision and strong track record of industry engagement and innovation,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will also help Â鶹ֱ²¥ to train the highly skilled and industry-ready students of the future.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe development of artificial intelligence is among the most exciting and emerging areas of research and as a leading science and technology research university, Curtin is the perfect partner for this project.\u201d<\/p>\n
Mr Paitaridis said digital transformation remained a top priority for most Australian enterprises and governments.<\/p>\n
\u201cFully realising the application of technology, like artificial intelligence, is critical in how we\u2019re helping organisations address digital disruption,\u201d Mr Paitaridis said.<\/p>\n
