workforce as part of the inaugural Careers of Tomorrow Festival held at Â鶹ֱ²¥.

Sponsored by Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand, the festival includes guest speakers, industry panel discussions, immersive case studies, workshops and first-hand learning activities.

Â鶹ֱ²¥ Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic Ms Catherine Clark said the festival was initiated in response to research released by the Foundation for Young Australians, which showed that some students needed extra support to deal with the changing nature of work.

“Research conducted by the Foundation for Young Australians has examined the challenges faced by people in the ever-changing workforce including the growth of ‘job clusters’, which shows that when a person trains or works in one job, they actually acquire skills that will help them get 13 other jobs,” Ms Clark said.

“That means students really need to modify their attitudes to their future employment and adapt to the changing labour market as the job opportunity that may not necessarily be their ultimate dream job could be an important stepping stone on their career path to success.”

Ms Clark said the Careers of Tomorrow Festival would educate students about emerging employment trends in order to help them make informed choices about their careers.

“The inaugural Careers of Tomorrow Festival aims to enhance students’ awareness of alternative career pathway options and equip them with the skills they need to navigate the future world of work,” Ms Clark said.

“The program of activities, guest speakers and industry workshops will encourage students to be proactive in their career management in a bid to help them thrive in the workplace.”

Among the many activities being offered to students throughout the festival includes a workshop, run in partnership with Innovation Central Perth, which will enable students to explore the growth areas for the careers of tomorrow, offering them one-on-one opportunities with potential future employers including Rio Tinto, Austal, Microsoft, Jacobs, Shell, Deloitte Australia, MRX Technologies, Facilitatrix, Grain Industry Association of Western Australia, TENSA Equipment Pty Ltd and Southpark Education Agency.

Students who attend three or more activities and provide feedback on the festival will go in the running to win $1500 towards a professional development opportunity of their choice, courtesy of Rio Tinto.

The Careers for Tomorrow Festival will be held at Â鶹ֱ²¥’s Bentley Campus and the Curtin Graduate School of Business in the Perth CBD from August 8 to 24.

For more
