  {"id":19144,"date":"2018-11-30T01:52:52","date_gmt":"2018-11-29T17:52:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-elevates-commitment-to-national-reconciliation-action\/"},"modified":"2022-12-08T11:28:40","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T03:28:40","slug":"curtin-elevates-commitment-to-national-reconciliation-action","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-elevates-commitment-to-national-reconciliation-action\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin elevates commitment to national reconciliation action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ has confirmed its commitment to leading national reconciliation action in the education sector by today launching its Elevate RAP endorsed by Reconciliation Australia.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-51118\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/Professor-Simon-Forrest-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>An Elevate RAP \u2013 the highest level within Reconciliation Australia\u2019s Workplace RAP Framework \u2013 is for organisations that have a proven track record of embedding effective RAP initiatives in their workplace.<\/p>\n<p>Curtin\u2019s Reconciliation Action Plan 2018-2020: Facilitating Diversity and Inclusion, developed in association with Reconciliation Australia, is the University\u2019s third RAP.<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said Curtin\u2019s RAP journey had helped the University to think more strategically about how the entire Curtin community \u2013 not just particular groups or areas \u00ad\u2013 could advance reconciliation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is critical because the spirit of reconciliation needs to live in the very fabric of our organisation, owned and championed by us all,\u201d Professor Terry said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are very proud of the contribution we have made to building a culture that values and respects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, culture and heritage both within the University and beyond. The University\u2019s Elevate RAP enables us to serve as a role model for other organisations starting out on their own reconciliation journey and will help guide us in leading the way to advance reconciliation locally, nationally and internationally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-51119\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/IMG_0580.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/>Reconciliation Australia CEO Karen Mundine commended Curtin as a dedicated supporter of reconciliation for many years, after joining the program in 2008 as the first Australian teaching and research institution to develop and implement its own RAP.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn that time, Curtin has contributed significantly to the promotion of the five dimensions of reconciliation: historical acceptance, equality and equity, unity, institutional integrity, and race relations,\u201d Ms Mundine said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy raising the bar of its RAP ambitions, Curtin continues to lead national reconciliation action in the education sector.
