  {"id":19572,"date":"2020-08-10T00:21:51","date_gmt":"2020-08-09T16:21:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtins-wa-school-of-mines-and-fortescue-join-forces-for-a-digital-future\/"},"modified":"2020-08-10T00:21:51","modified_gmt":"2020-08-09T16:21:51","slug":"curtins-wa-school-of-mines-and-fortescue-join-forces-for-a-digital-future","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtins-wa-school-of-mines-and-fortescue-join-forces-for-a-digital-future\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin\u2019s WA School of Mines and Fortescue join forces for a digital future"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥, in partnership with Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue), has appointed Dr Robert Solomon as its first Professor of Practice in Mining Automation and Data Analysis at the Western Australian School of Mines (WASM) in Kalgoorlie.<\/p>\n<p>In his current role as Operations Improvement Manager at Fortescue, Dr Solomon leads a team looking into the operational efficiency of the Company\u2019s autonomous mining operations using data sets and advanced analytics.<\/p>\n<p>In his new position, Dr Solomon will lead and implement research initiatives; foster industry collaborations; shape undergraduate curriculum; and encourage the expansion of conceptual and practical boundaries of applied data science in the minerals industry.<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Vice-Chancellor Professor John Cordery said the Mining Automation Professor of Practice will be integral to embedding WASM\u2019s new future-focused curriculum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr Solomon brings a wealth of practical experience in operations, impressive academic credentials and a passion for ensuring that new technologies deliver a sustainable industry future.
