  {"id":19904,"date":"2022-06-20T01:16:47","date_gmt":"2022-06-19T17:16:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-astrophysicist-named-among-nations-leaders-in-her-field\/"},"modified":"2022-12-08T10:02:53","modified_gmt":"2022-12-08T02:02:53","slug":"curtin-astrophysicist-named-among-nations-leaders-in-her-field","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/curtin-astrophysicist-named-among-nations-leaders-in-her-field\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin astrophysicist named among nation\u2019s leaders in her field"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Curtin astrophysicist has been recognised by the country\u2019s professional body for astronomical research for her significant contribution to advancing a greater understanding of the Universe through research.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Natasha Hurley-Walker, an ARC Future Fellow from the Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ node of the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research, was today awarded the Anne Green Prize by the Astronomical Society of Australia.<\/p>\n<p>The Anne Green Prize recognises a significant advance or accomplishment by a mid-career scientist and honours Professor Green\u2019s extensive contribution to astronomy following her retirement in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research Professor Chris Moran congratulated Dr Hurley-Walker on being recognised among the country\u2019s leaders in astronomy research.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr Hurley-Walker led the Murchison Widefield Array team that processed the GLEAM (Galactic and Extragalactic All-sky MWA) survey, using the powerful radio telescope to create striking multi-coloured maps of the southern sky, generating a host of new scientific studies of our Universe,\u201d Professor Moran said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA passionate advocate for science, outreach, sustainability and gender equity, Dr Hurley-Walker\u2019s work in astronomy is a significant contribution to the nation\u2019s research in the field and is helping to inspire the next generation to consider the exciting possibilities of a career in science.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Dr Hurley-Walker said she was delighted to be acknowledged by the Astronomical Society of Australia with an award named in Professor Green\u2019s honour.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cProfessor Green is a true trailblazer in our field;
