Curtin finalists named in 2024 Premier\u2019s Science Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Seven Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ researchers and students have been recognised for their achievements, named as finalists in the 2024 Premier\u2019s Science Awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The prestigious annual event recognises Western Australia\u2019s finest achievements in science and aims to raise the profile of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/staffportal.curtin.edu.au\/staff\/profile\/view\/sharon-parker-1c9ef7b1\/\">John Curtin Distinguished Professor Sharon Parker<\/a> has been nominated in the Awards\u2019 esteemed Scientist of the Year category, for her work equipping Australian organisations to evolve and flourish in the technology-driven innovation age as Director of the Centre for Transformative Work Design at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.futureofworkinstitute.com.au\/\">Future of Work Institute<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/staffportal.curtin.edu.au\/staff\/profile\/view\/morten-allentoft-28854b18\/\">Professor Morten Allentoft<\/a> from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/learning-teaching\/science-engineering\/school-of-molecular-life-sciences\/\">School of Molecular and Life Sciences<\/a>\u2019 research into our ancient ancestors and the world in which they lived has been published in highly regarded journals \u2014 including five papers in Nature this year alone \u2014 and has seen him named a finalist for Mid-Career Scientist of the Year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/learning-teaching\/health-sciences\/curtin-school-of-population-health\/\">Curtin School of Population Health<\/a> has two finalists for Early Career Scientist of the Year with <a href=\"https:\/\/staffportal.curtin.edu.au\/staff\/profile\/view\/eleanor-dunlop-70f9a65a\/\">Dr Eleanor Dunlop<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/staffportal.curtin.edu.au\/staff\/profile\/view\/david-preece-0b3c90a5\/\">Dr David Preece<\/a> named for their work in multiple sclerosis and psychology research respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/staffportal.curtin.edu.au\/staff\/profile\/view\/zoe-richards-e072e458\/\">Associate Professor Zoe Richards<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/staffportal.curtin.edu.au\/staff\/profile\/view\/alexandra-yeung-31622cc3\/\">Dr Alexandra Yeung<\/a>\u2019s work teaching in the School of Molecular and Life Sciences and sharing their passion for coral reefs and chemistry with students sees them both named as finalists for STEM Educator of the Year \u2013 Tertiary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Coastal and Marine Science and Environmental Management student Brodie O\u2019Breza is a finalist in the Aboriginal STEM Student of the Year and is currently in Fiji furthering her studies as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/passports-packed-prestigious-scholarships-to-give-curtin-trio-global-experience\/\">2024 New Colombo Plan Scholar<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the first time, this year\u2019s ceremony will see a People\u2019s Choice Award presented to the finalist receiving the most votes from the general public, via the Awards\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wa.gov.au\/organisation\/department-of-jobs-tourism-science-and-innovation\/premiers-science-awards-2024-peoples-choice-award\">online voting forum<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Research <a href=\"https:\/\/staffportal.curtin.edu.au\/staff\/profile\/view\/melinda-fitzgerald-e380f4d6\/\">Professor Melinda Fitzgerald<\/a> congratulated Curtin\u2019s finalists on being recognised among the State\u2019s best and brightest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Premier\u2019s Science Awards celebrate the best of the groundbreaking scientific work taking place across Western Australia, so being named as finalists is wonderful recognition of the dedication, passion and ingenuity of these researchers, educators and students,\u201d Professor Fitzgerald said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHaving seven finalists in this year\u2019s awards demonstrates Curtin is at the forefront of science, technology, research and engagement in WA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe State will benefit not only from these finalists\u2019 work, but also from our students as they become the next generation of STEM pioneers.\u201d The Premiers Science Awards winners for 2024 will be
