{"id":27406,"date":"2025-02-18T10:07:41","date_gmt":"2025-02-18T02:07:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/?post_type=media-release&#038;p=27406"},"modified":"2025-02-18T10:07:46","modified_gmt":"2025-02-18T02:07:46","slug":"thousands-head-to-was-preferred-university-for-o-week","status":"publish","type":"media-release","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/media-release\/thousands-head-to-was-preferred-university-for-o-week\/","title":{"rendered":"Thousands head to WA\u2019s preferred university for O-Week"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Thousands of students from across Western Australia and around the world will begin their higher education journey at Curtin\u2019s Perth and Kalgoorlie campuses this week as Orientation Week 2025 gets underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Running from February 17 to 21, Curtin\u2019s O-Week serves as an important precursor to Semester One, offering a packed schedule of information sessions, workshops and events to help new students transition into university life, connect with peers and explore everything Curtin has to offer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Â鶹ֱ²¥ <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/about\/leadership\/vice-chancellor\/\">Vice-Chancellor Professor Harlene Hayne CNZM<\/a> said 2025 was shaping up to be another exciting year for the University, with new programs, strong student demand and major milestones to be celebrated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cCurtin continues to be the university of choice for Western Australian students and we are committed to ensuring they learn, grow and flourish throughout their time here,\u201d Professor Hayne said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe also attract bright, articulate, and ambitious students from around the world to join our Curtin community.<br><br>\u201cThe University prides itself on putting students at the centre of everything we do. Through industry partnerships, hands-on learning, new approaches to teaching and research opportunities, Curtin is working hard to ensure students gain the skills they need for their future careers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s why Curtin graduates have been rated the best in the country for employer satisfaction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Curtin is set to welcome more than 6,500* new undergraduate students across its WA campuses this year, with strong demand for courses including:<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Bachelor of Medicine<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bachelor of Engineering<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bachelor of Commerce<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Bachelor of Nursing<br><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, Curtin is relaunching its Bachelor of Science (Paramedicine) in 2025, offering students the chance to train as paramedics with real-world, hands-on experience. The first intake since 2022 will start this semester, and the updated course is now open to a wider range of applicants and no longer has any employment co-requisites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Students will gain practical skills through state-of-the-art facilities, including a simulation ambulance that provides an immersive learning experience, helping them prepare for the demands of real-life emergency situations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Professor Hayne said this year Curtin was expanding its Students Mentoring Staff program, an initiative which will give students the opportunity to share their perspectives with professional staff and provide valuable insights.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cUniversity should be a two-way conversation, and we want students to play an active role in shaping their learning experience,\u201d Professor Hayne said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s also great to see continued growth in our Industry Mentoring Program, which connects hundreds of students every year with professionals to help build networks and confidence before they graduate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year also marks significant milestones for the School of Education and the School of Art and Design, both celebrating 50 years of educating, training and inspiring our teachers and creative artists.
