The opportunity has come up for Â鶹ֱ²¥ students to volunteer their time to support the FIRST LEGO League competition by acting as Robot Game Referees and Judges. You\u2019ll have the chance to help with the running of the event and to inspire and encourage future STEM visionaries!<\/p>\n
What is the FIRST LEGO League?<\/strong><\/p>\n The FIRST LEGO League (FLL)<\/a> is a robotics and innovation competition for 9-16 year olds. In teams of 2-10, kids will program a LEGO robot to complete missions and present an innovation project to judges.<\/p>\n At the competition, teams gather and compete with and demonstrate their LEGO Robot, engaging with hundreds of other like-minded kids, all in a fun and lively atmosphere!<\/p>\n When is it?<\/strong><\/p>\n From mid-November to mid-December, the Curtin STEM Outreach team coordinates 11 FLL competitions around Western Australia:<\/p>\n EVENT DATES Volunteers would be required for a full day, with most weekday events happening 9am to 3pm, and most weekend events 8am to 4:30pm.<\/p>\n Students are invited to volunteer at one or more of these events.<\/p>\n What is required of the volunteers?<\/strong><\/p>\n Students have the choice of being either Robot Game Referees<\/strong> or Judges<\/strong>.<\/p>\n As a Robot Game Referee<\/strong>, you will need to be across the rules<\/a> of the Robot Game, be good with kids, and will be on your feet for most of the day. Your role will see you at the front and centre of all the action of the competition! You can watch a full Robot Game<\/a> on YouTube to better understand the game.<\/p>\n There are Judging <\/strong>opportunities available for students who are and aren\u2019t from a STEM\/robotics background, the most important thing is to be excited to motivate and encourage the kids with their projects.
