This year\u2019s NAIDOC theme For Our Elders<\/strong><\/em>, celebrates the continuing impact and role of Indigenous Elders that have guided generations in preserving cultural knowledge, nurturing and advocating for communities and families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Each year NAIDOC Week is held in the first week of July, to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. From 2 to 9 July this year, learn about First Nations cultures and histories and participate in celebrations of the oldest, continuous living cultures on Earth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n At Curtin, visit a range of events this NAIDOC Week to learn more about the role you can play towards reconciliation.<\/p>\n\n\n Tuesday 4 July, 9am to 4.30pm<\/strong><\/p> Hosted by the National Drug Research Institute (NDRI) and Centre for Aboriginal Studies (CAS), view the work of Curtin\u2019s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander academics and students.<\/p><\/div> Tuesday 4 July, 11am to 12.30pm<\/strong><\/p> Join Lifelong Learning coordinator Cornah Willis at John Curtin Gallery and compare and contrast the Carrolup child artists with the Modern Masters.<\/p><\/div> Thursday 6 July, 9.30am to 11am<\/strong><\/p> Join us as we gather to honour and engage with this year’s NAIDOC theme, For Our Elders<\/strong>. Whadjuk Elder Betty Garlett will provide a Welcome to Country and share her invaluable wisdom and knowledge with us all.<\/p><\/div> Thursday 6 July, 10am to 1pm<\/strong><\/p> Learn weaving and binding techniques at John Curtin Gallery with the master Noongar weaver Sharyn Egan to create your own totem animal from yarn and meadow hay.<\/p><\/div>
