From Bangladesh, to a year of travel around Asia, to Perth, Shoshi\u2019s passion for exploring the world has destined her for a lifetime of excitement across the globe. Studying a Master\u2019s of Information Systems and Technology, Shoshi is excited to continue her adventures inside and outside of uni. | Reading time: 3 min<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How can one student\u2019s enthusiasm for new experiences bring them to Perth? For Shoshi, only in her first semester, her time at Curtin has already felt like an adventure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After completing her undergraduate degree in Bangladesh, and a gap year spent travelling across Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia, Shoshi, excited to explore even more new places, found herself studying a Master of Information Systems and Technology at Curtin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTravelling taught me a lot about myself, like how much I love exploring different perspectives, cultures, and, of course, food. So, that journey eventually led me here.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

One of Shoshi\u2019s favourite things about studying her degree has been the weekly challenges. During the semester, there is a lot to juggle, especially as the weeks go by fast and the assessments quickly start to ramp up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBack home, I was a proud backbencher. I used to study the night before exams and somehow survive. But here, Curtin doesn’t give you that luxury. Every week feels like a mini boss fighting with five assignments. So I actually love it. It keeps me on my toes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, she has found time management to be quite challenging now that she\u2019s at Curtin. She has felt a notable difference between the workload of studying a degree back home in Bangladesh and in Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDoing a full-time course means balancing classes, assignments, events and planning for work.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And, while she isn\u2019t working right now, Shoshi hopes to find a job at Curtin to make it easier to balance her uni and work life. Being an international student, uni life has already been an adjustment, and a job at uni would help her overcome the challenges that come with yet another new experience, working in a foreign country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A highlight of Shoshi\u2019s experience at Curtin is the Faculty of Business and Law\u2019s Caversham Wildlife Park trip<\/strong>, her first time exploring Aussie wildlife. While she has visited a few beaches in Perth, most of WA remains unknown to her, so this was an exciting way to get involved in student life and discover places outside of Curtin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI took a bunch of pictures with kangaroos, koalas and other cute animals. That day felt like living inside a travel vlog.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Shoshi\u2019s advice for other international students coming to study at Curtin centres on her biggest challenge at uni: time management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cManage your study, your time and yourself. If you can balance things well, you get to enjoy life, make memories and also get your assignments done on time.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

She\u2019s also found that the people she\u2019s met since starting her degree have made the adjustment to Curtin much easier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI’m getting help from different kinds of people here. Students from different countries, friends from the same faculty, and also going here and there to socialise with people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After graduation, Shoshi hopes to work at a large IT company and looks forward to further exploring her new life in Perth, both inside and outside Curtin.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
