  {"id":4562,"date":"2009-06-02T21:58:30","date_gmt":"2009-06-02T13:58:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/sian-trots-to-success\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:06:09","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:06:09","slug":"sian-trots-to-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/sian-trots-to-success\/","title":{"rendered":"Sian trots to success"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Curtin Business School\u2019s top graduate for 2008, Sian Hughes never thought that her love of horses would become her career.<\/p>\n<p>The Maylands resident, who completed her internship at the WA Trotting Association, is now their sales and promotions coordinator.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been extremely lucky to land a job in an industry I\u2019m passionate about,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always had a passion for horses and I get this from my dad who has trained trotters his whole life.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a dynamic industry and getting to meet a variety of people keeps things interesting and fun.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The management and public relations graduate was awarded with the Fremantle Football Club prize for academic excellence at the recent CBS awards ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s an honour to be recognised for my hard work. I owe a lot to the dedicated CBS teaching staff. They really helped steer me in the right direction,\u201d Ms Hughes said.<\/p>\n<p>In the short term, the avid saxophonist said she would like to see harness racing have an identity facelift.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would like to give the sport a fresher, more appealing image to a new generation of people. Attracting new people into the sport is crucial in making it sustainable,\u201d Ms Hughes said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI also own a share in a one-year-old colt that my dad and I bred. He\u2019ll start breaking him in to learn how to race in the next few months.
