{"id":4585,"date":"2009-03-17T03:53:32","date_gmt":"2009-03-16T19:53:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/curtin-staff-and-students-raise-25000-for-this-years-worlds-greatest-shave\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:06:14","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:06:14","slug":"curtin-staff-and-students-raise-25000-for-this-years-worlds-greatest-shave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/curtin-staff-and-students-raise-25000-for-this-years-worlds-greatest-shave\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin staff and students raise $25,000  for this year&#8217;s World&#8217;s Greatest Shave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The annual <em>World\u2019s Greatest Shave<\/em> was an unprecedented success at Curtin this year, with students and staff colouring or shaving their locks to raise a whopping $25,000 for Leukaemia research.<\/p>\n<p>Around 70 brave souls gathered near Atkinson forum on Curtin&#8217;s Bentley campus to put vanity aside for the cause, raising $8,500 more than in 2008.<\/p>\n<p>Student and Community Development Officer Maureen Meredith said the increase in donations was partly due to more females being willing to abide by the event&#8217;s slogan of &#8220;be brave and shave&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;More girls shaving contributes a lot to the fund raising,&#8217; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;It&#8217;s such an emotional thing for girls. I&#8217;m just really proud of their contribution, helping people that are less fortunate.
