Curtin’s Activity, Food and Attitudes Program (CAFAP) work with physiotherapists, dietitians, social workers and clinical psychologists on exercise and lifestyle.

The program is aimed at 12-16 year olds with a BMI over the 85th percentile.

CAFAP Program Coordinator, Nicola Hamilton, said the program offered exercise classes and information sessions on healthy eating and lifestyle change.

“We are not aiming for major weight loss during the eight-week program, but we want to see a change in attitudes and lifestyle,” she said.

“Parents are also expected to attend the program with their children.”

Ms Sue Buchel, whose daughter Lauren (age 14) has been participating in the program for two months, is delighted with the positive impact that it has had on her family.

“The program has been wonderful and Lauren has already learnt to set goals and boundaries for herself in terms of her food choices,” she said.

“By both of us participating in the program, I believe my whole family can also benefit through the positive things we are learning.

“We need to improve our lifestyle choices together as a family to ensure lasting change.”

Participants are being sought for the program starting on 12 October, which is held at Curtin’s Bentley Campus
