Louise Ganderton, a first-year Curtin PhD student, has been awarded a Lung Institute of Western Australia (LIWA) Scholarship for 2010.<\/p>\n

Louise, who is undertaking lung health research at Curtin, is also the first student from the University to receive such an award. She says the $30,000 three-year scholarship will help her concentrate on her studies.<\/p>\n

‘I am delighted to be awarded this scholarship.\u00a0 It means that I will be able to continue my studies in a full-time capacity… allowing me to further explore, interpret, and gain a deeper understanding of my research area.’<\/p>\n

Louise will be supervised by respiratory experts at LIWA including Sue Jenkins, head of the Physiotherapy Unit, and Eli Gabbay, head of the Pulmonary Vascular and Advanced Lung Unit.<\/p>\n

Director of LIWA, Professor Philip Thompson, says the scholarship highlights the institute’s commitment to educational research.<\/p>\n

‘We currently provide a range of educational research scholarships for students, young doctors, and scientists.\u00a0 LIWA is committed to attracting and supporting students who wish to pursue a career in research and in promoting research excellence in all areas of lung disease.’<\/p>\n
