  {"id":4689,"date":"2010-08-16T06:06:54","date_gmt":"2010-08-15T22:06:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/the-john-curtin-gallery-raises-funds-with-a-little-help-from-its-friends\/"},"modified":"2024-10-25T08:56:49","modified_gmt":"2024-10-25T00:56:49","slug":"the-john-curtin-gallery-raises-funds-with-a-little-help-from-its-friends","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/the-john-curtin-gallery-raises-funds-with-a-little-help-from-its-friends\/","title":{"rendered":"The John Curtin Gallery raises funds with a little help from its friends"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A unique collection of artwork contributed by artists closely connected to the John Curtin Gallery, helped the Gallery achieve sales of over $50,000 in one night.<\/p>\n<p>In an address to patrons at the John Curtin Gallery&#8217;s <em>GET smART<\/em> auction last Friday night, Vice-Chancellor Jeanette Hacket said the exhibition and auction was a milestone event in the Gallery&#8217;s 12-year history.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Many of the artworks being auctioned this evening are by Curtin graduates and staff and it must be acknowledged that some of the most significant contemporary artists of Australia&#8217;s current generation are in fact Curtin graduates,&#8217; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;Many of these artists have had access to the John Curtin Gallery as a resource for teaching, learning or research.\u00a0 It has also provided them with the wonderful opportunity to showcase their work in a world-class exhibition space.&#8217;<\/p>\n<p>The 64 artists who participated in the exhibition and auction have an established a relationship with the Gallery.
