  {"id":4856,"date":"2012-07-09T08:18:19","date_gmt":"2012-07-09T00:18:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/curtin-film-alumni-enjoy-success-from-west-to-east-coast\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:06:52","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:06:52","slug":"curtin-film-alumni-enjoy-success-from-west-to-east-coast","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/curtin-film-alumni-enjoy-success-from-west-to-east-coast\/","title":{"rendered":"Curtin film alumni enjoy success from west to east coast"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This month\u2019s Revelation Film Festival in Perth will feature a short film produced by two Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ graduates, Emma Vickery and Steve Fleming.<\/p>\n<p>The short dramatic comedy, <em>Polarised<\/em>, will screen on Thursday 12 July as part of the Festival\u2019s Get Your Shorts On event.<\/p>\n<p>The film tells the story of school holidays and unrequited love as the protagonist, 12 year old Beth, attempts to snare an older man.<\/p>\n<p>The film\u2019s writer and co-producer, 2008 Curtin film graduate Emma Vickery said <em>Polarised<\/em> has strong connections to Curtin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe director Steve and I met whilst studying film at Curtin,\u201d she said.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/13\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/POLARISED_PRESS_KIT_22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-large wp-image-12934\" title=\"POLARISED_PRESS_KIT_2[2]\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wp-content\/blogs.dir\/13\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/07\/POLARISED_PRESS_KIT_22.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"142\" height=\"214\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany of our cast and crew are also Curtin graduates or staff, including lead actor Bradley Stevens, director of photography Deland Tay and editor Joachim Strand.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the first film Steve and I have had screened at a festival as director and writer respectively and we&#8217;re very excited.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The filmmakers hope to emulate the success of their fellow Curtin alumnus, Zak Hilditch who last month scooped the pool at the St Kilda Film Festival Awards in Victoria.<\/p>\n<p>Zak took out best short film and best director for his post-apocalyptic sci-fi <em>Transmission<\/em>. The film also picked up the awards for Best Actor and Best Achievements in editing.<\/p>\n<p>As well as completing his undergraduate degree and honours at Curtin, in recent years Zak has been a sessional tutor with the university\u2019s Department of Film, TV and Screen Arts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I first started studying film, Curtin lecturers Ron Elliott and Ken Miller gave me some invaluable filmmaking tips and I am grateful for their guidance,\u201d Zak said.<\/p>\n<p>Zak is now working on his first feature film, <em>These Final Hours<\/em>.
