  {"id":5273,"date":"2015-06-04T08:53:18","date_gmt":"2015-06-04T00:53:18","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wa-scientist-wins-seafood-crc-award\/"},"modified":"2022-12-07T13:07:17","modified_gmt":"2022-12-07T05:07:17","slug":"wa-scientist-wins-seafood-crc-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/news\/wa-scientist-wins-seafood-crc-award\/","title":{"rendered":"WA Scientist Wins Seafood CRC Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Western Australian with a passion for the seafood industry has won the Seafood Cooperative Research Centre\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.seafoodcrc.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">David Thomason People\u2019s Choice Award<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Research scientist at <a href=\"http:\/\/cessh.curtin.edu.au\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Curtin\u2019s Centre of Excellence for Science, Seafood &amp; Health<\/a> (CESSH) <a href=\"http:\/\/healthsciences.curtin.edu.au\/faculty\/research_staff_hide.cfm\/J.Howieson\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dr Janet Howieson<\/a>, received the award at the Seafood CRC\u2019s celebratory event held in Adelaide last week.<\/p>\n<p>Seafood CRC Managing Director Dr Len Stephens, acknowledged Dr Howieson for her ability to focus on practical outcomes that would help the Australian seafood industry.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJanet has worked on many excellent projects, including bringing prawn farmers and fishers together to develop and fund a marketing campaign,\u201d says Stevens.<br \/>\n\u201cShe has produced valuable educational packages, contributed immensely to a whole range of supply chain and quality projects, and developed novel approaches to dealing with underutilised species.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CESSH Director Professor Alexandra McManus, said that Dr Howieson had made a positive impact to the industry during her time at CESSH.<br \/>\n\u201cJanet has done a remarkable job over the past seven years in facilitating partnerships within the seafood industry that have resulted in substantial changes to practice, with clear benefits to all involved,\u201d says McManus.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also fitting that she should receive the inaugural award dedicated to the late David Thomason, who was a friend and mentor.\u201d<br \/>\nThe CRC program supports collaboration between researchers, industries, communities and governments to solve major challenges facing Australia, many of which are global challenges.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Dr Janet Howieson at Curtin\u2019s Centre of Excellence for Science, Seafood &amp;
