Come Join Us!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery has-nested-images columns-default is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"449\" data-id=\"145190\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/research\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/Screenshot-2025-11-24-110001-1000x449.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-145190\"\/><\/figure>\n<\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Wonderful 2025 Work in Progress at Shelly Primary (Oct 2025) &#8230;  Congrats to AiR Courtney and Host Amelia and everyone involved in this fabulous mural<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ the Âé¶¹Ö±²¥ AiR Program:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The AiR program has operated at Curtin via the School of Education since 2016 and annually places student artists from School of Media Creative Arts and Social Inquiry and School of Education in WA primary schools in Term 3 of the school year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The artists work in partnership with teachers and students on a special art project beyond the scope of the standard curriculum. Most residencies are within visual arts, but there have been some projects in media and also drama disciplines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most projects have a duration of around 30-40 hours, are collaboratively designed and executed with the students and their Generalist Teacher. The night-time frog mural they created is a stunning addition to our school, and it has already become a beloved feature. What stood out most was their inclusive approach. The mural&nbsp;has brightened the school beautifully and helped unite our community.<\/em>The aim of the project was to create a landscape mural that celebrates the local flora and fauna as well as the community within the school. I appreciated how <strong>our&nbsp; Artists,&nbsp; Ross and Taylor<\/strong> considered the local community and environment in each stage of the project and then prioritised our students&#8217; authentic contribution to the artwork. The community response to the artwork has been wonderful, particularly watching children bring their parents in to show them where they added their own little design to the mural.<\/em> Paraburdoo Primary School from year groups 4 to 6 created a mural based on the local community and biodiversity of the surrounding area. The project was a hands-on interactive visual art experience that encouraged the children to express their own ideas about what their life in Paraburdoo is like. The focus was on a range of animals and flowers chosen by each class as their totem. For example, willy wag tail, magpie, crow, emu and eagle with flowers chosen from those found locally. This work on the ground is 1.2 metres x 1.8 metres, and armed with Stanley knives over 2 weeks we carefully cut the stencils ( and with occasional repair necessary) no blood was drawn, they took their task very seriously and responsibly. For the printing sessions, we were lucky to have some brave and fabulous parents as part of the process. The look of absolute joy on their faces as we revealed their print was worth the wait, thanks to Stephanie and Curtin for this wonderful opportunity. &#8220;<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div>                <\/div>\n                            <div>\n                    <div  id=\"st-stephens-school-mural-2018\" class=\"card\" data-type=\"\" aria-label=\"st-stephens-school-mural-2018\"><div class=\"inner\"><div class=\"card__title\"><h3>St Stephen\u2019s School Mural 2018<\/h3><\/div><div class=\"card__content\"><p>This 2018 Nature themed mural at the Duncraig campus site was a large-scale visual arts collaboration project between Curtin MCASI artist Stephen Peacock and Art Teacher Claire Davenhall and students in yrs 4,5 and 10.  Claire noted: &#8220;The mural themes encompass native flora and fauna and two whiteboards have been embedded in the design so the area is also a teaching space for Phys Ed classes. The children created the individual visual arts pieces and under Conrad&#8217;s guidance, the animation came to life. The children each created their own individual rock and then the teacher and artist collaborated to install the work.  Keilo described the project in the following way: &#8220;this wonderful textured pebbled mosaic feature, based on the Aboriginal calendar, in our nature play at Dalmain P.S went in during our weekend
