This may be for a unit of study or a graduation requirement, these requests are supported by the faculty \/ school who manage the students degree.<\/p>\n<p>Co-curricular Fieldwork is not part of a students degree, it is a range of complementary skill development opportunities undertaken on a voluntary basis with community organisations. These requests are supported by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/personal-support\/career-advice\/\">Curtin Careers team<\/a> who can be contacted on <a href=\"tel:0892667802\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">(08) 9266 7802<\/a> or at Curtin Connect (Building 102, Bentley Campus).<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-What's-the-difference-between-paid-and-unpaid-fieldwork?\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"What's-the-difference-between-paid-and-unpaid-fieldwork?\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-What's-the-difference-between-paid-and-unpaid-fieldwork?\">What&#8217;s the difference between paid and unpaid fieldwork?<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"What's-the-difference-between-paid-and-unpaid-fieldwork?\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>In order for a placement activity to be classed as\u00a0<em>Paid<\/em>, the engagement for work must meet or exceed minimum wage legislation (this excludes stipends, allowances, completion bonuses and other financial exchanges falling short of minimum wage legislation). Any activity falling short of this definition is classed as unpaid fieldwork and must be insured under the university policy with formal approval being required.<\/p>\n\n        \n                            \n                    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n                    <div class=\"accordion\" aria-labelledby=\"accordion-title-Can-fieldwork-be-both-paid-and-unpaid?\">\n            <button type=\"button\" class=\"accordion__heading\" aria-controls=\"Can-fieldwork-be-both-paid-and-unpaid?\" aria-expanded=\"false\">\n            <div class=\"title\" id=\"accordion-title-Can-fieldwork-be-both-paid-and-unpaid?\">Can fieldwork be both paid and unpaid?<\/div>\n            <div class=\"icon\"><\/div>\n        <\/button>\n        <div class=\"accordion__content\" id=\"Can-fieldwork-be-both-paid-and-unpaid?\" aria-hidden=\"true\">\n                    <p>No, due to our insurance arrangements the Faculty does not allow split format placements. The student submits their request directly to the WIL team using our webform (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/experience\/industry\/science-engineering\/portal\/\" rel=\"noopener\">see our fieldwork portal<\/a>), as either a &#8216;<em>paid internship&#8217;<\/em> or &#8216;<em>unpaid internship&#8217;<\/em>\u00a0request for approval, respective to the offer made by the industry partner.<\/p>\n<p>Formal approval is provided by email directly from the WIL team, no other forms of approval are authorised.
