To avoid being prematurely removed from an online test, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/04\/Touchpad-Respondus.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">disable multi-finger swipe gestures [.pdf 302kB].<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.respondus.com\/hc\/article_attachments\/4410210882587\/Download_page.png\" alt=\"Download_page.png\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>2) Start the Browser<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Launch the Lockdown browser from the desktop. This will prompt you to log in to OASIS. Select your course, locate the exam, and start the test.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong>3) Taking an Exam<br \/>\n<\/strong>Once the exam has started, students are locked into the exam. They\u2019re unable to print, copy, go to other web addresses, or access other applications on the computer. Web searches, instant messaging, minimizing the browser, and hundreds of other functions are also prevented. Once the exam is completed, students are permitted to exit the browser and their computer will return to its normal state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong><u>Using a Webcam<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">If your exam requires the use of a webcam (Respondus Monitor), you\u2019ll be guided through a brief set of screens prior to the start of the exam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">The first screen is a webcam check, where you can make sure the webcam is working properly. Follow the instructions for each step carefully.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.respondus.com\/hc\/article_attachments\/4409595674267\/618425ef47d2c.png\" alt=\"startup sequence\" width=\"997\" height=\"564\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Identity Verification<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ensure you have your student ID card to verify your details during the Respondus authentication process. You can <a href=\"https:\/\/students.connect.curtin.edu.au\/app\/answers\/detail\/a_id\/2348\/kw\/id%20card\" rel=\"noopener\">order your student ID card<\/a> online. If you are unable to obtain a student ID card before your test, acceptable forms of identification include Government issued ID such as a Driver\u2019s License, Passport or National Identification Card.<\/p>\n<p>When photographing your Student ID during the set up process, <strong>the card should fill the entire frame<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 1.8rem\"> such as in the image below. Position the ID card in front of the camera and make sure the photo of the card is clear. If the photo is unclear, adjust the card and retake the image.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-38397\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/06\/Curtin-Student-ID-Example-592x370.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"592\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 1.8rem\">Do not position the ID card next to your face.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-38421\" src=\"https:\/\/www.curtin.edu.au\/students\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/2025\/06\/Cropped-medium-Incorrect-ID-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"491\" height=\"370\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><strong>Environment Check<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>If you are required to conduct an environment check, where possible:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Show Your Desk Area<br \/>\n\u2022 Use your webcam to pan slowly across your desk.<br \/>\n\u2022 Ensure the desk is clear of all unauthorised materials, including books, notes, electronic devices (except the one used for the exam), and writing aids unless explicitly permitted.<\/li>\n<li>Show the Surrounding Room<br \/>\n\u2022 Rotate your webcam 360 degrees to show the entire room.<br \/>\n\u2022 Include under the desk, behind the monitor, and any adjacent surfaces.<\/li>\n<li>Show Wall Materials<br \/>\n\u2022 Zoom in on any posters, whiteboards, or papers on the walls.<br \/>\n\u2022 If there are calendars, notes, or diagrams, show them clearly to confirm they are not related to the exam content.<\/li>\n<li>Confirm No Other People Are Present<br \/>\n\u2022 Clearly show that no one else is in the room.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Once the exam begins, a \u201cRecording\u201d icon will appear at the top right of the screen.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">Do not attempt to exit the exam until you\u2019re finished. Additionally, you won\u2019t be able to print, copy, access other applications, or go to other websites during the exam.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">When the exam is submitted for grading, the webcam will stop recording and you may exit LockDown Browser.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><strong><u>Early Exit<\/u><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\">If a student needs to exit the exam before submitting it, for example in case of an emergency or internet failure, they are required to enter a reason for exiting the exam early. (Instructors can then view this within the LockDown Browser dashboard.)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.respondus.com\/hc\/article_attachments\/4409604318619\/618425efddaa1.gif\" alt=\"early exit button\" width=\"431\" height=\"152\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/support.respondus.com\/hc\/article_attachments\/4409604318875\/618425f0493be.gif\" alt=\"early exit reason\" width=\"556\" height=\"233\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p>It is important to follow the set up and assessment instructions carefully. Select the appropriate application in use \u2013\u00a0<strong>LockDown Browser only<\/strong>\u00a0or\u00a0<strong>LockDown Browser with a webcam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The following screen will appear:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13682\" src=\"https:\/\/web.respondus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Monitor_Help_Center.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"569\" \/><\/p>\n<p>4) Select &#8220;Run Webcam Check&#8221; to ensure the webcam is working properly.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13689\" src=\"https:\/\/web.respondus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Webcam_Check.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"428\" \/><\/p>\n<p>5) Return to the main screen in Help Center and select the option &#8220;System Check&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13683\" src=\"https:\/\/web.respondus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/Monitor_Help_Center_check.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"569\" \/><\/p>\n<p>6) When the System Check is complete, a set of images will appear across the top of the screen. A green mark indicates that the item meets the system requirements; a red X may indicate a problem for that item.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-13680\" src=\"https:\/\/web.respondus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/System_Check_icons.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"290\" \/><\/p>\n<p>7) Scroll downward to see detailed results of the network and system check, including bandwidth and latency tests, OS information, a list of applications that are running, etc.<\/p>\n<p>8) Select &#8220;Email results&#8221; to send the System Check results.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-13684\" src=\"https:\/\/web.respondus.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/System_Check_email.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"869\" height=\"675\" \/><\/p>\n<p>9) The help desk can review the results that were sent by email.
