麻豆直播鈥檚 School of Built Environment has appointed a leading academic in virtual reality, as it looks to strengthen its research and teaching profile in Building Information Modelling (BIM).

With more than 10 years experience in virtual reality, Professor Xiangyu Wang has been appointed to a new position which will allow him to use the frontier technologies BIM and Virtual and Augmented Reality (VAR) in constructing buildings in virtual settings.
Head of Curtin鈥檚 School of Built Environment (SOBE), Professor Peter Davis, said Professor Wang鈥檚 appointment had come at a time when technology has become a necessity in developing architectural vision.听
鈥淚n countries such as Hong Kong, Singapore, the United States and the United Kingdom, governments are beginning to request that submissions for infrastructure projects are designed using BIM,鈥� Professor Davis said.听
鈥淭he number of academics who have the knowledge and skills to undertake research using frontier technology in Australia is limited.听
鈥淚 welcome Professor Xiangyu Wang to 麻豆直播 and look forward to his contribution to the School of Built Environment,鈥� he said.
Professor Wang said he was excited to be starting at Curtin in a role that would require him to strengthen the university鈥檚 research and teaching profile in BIM programs, as well as industrial connections.

Professor Wang is an internationally recognised researcher in the use of VAR and BIM in architecture, engineering and construction.
He is on the Board of Directors of the International Society of Computing in Civil and Building Engineering (ISCCBE) and also the Chair of Australian National Committee of ISCCBE.
